I follow the Premier League (Soccer) more so than I do US football or any other sport here in the States. A close second, but number one for twenty some odd years of my life, was NCAA Basketball (GO UNC TARHEELS, BOO DUKE
). But, the team I follow every week and move my schedule around so I can watch is Liverpool. Call me a band-wagoner and maybe that is a little correct... but I actually fell in love with the clubs history and its saying, "You'll Never Walk Alone." And, it was the coaching philosophy of Dean Smith at North Carolina that brought me to that team when I was 8-9 years old. Nonetheless, Liverpool is favorite soccer team. If I was a true band-wagoner I would have picked Manchester United or Chelsea... but I didn't. I'm just an American in love with European Soccer. Sadly, I have to say that MLS is kinda akin to underwater soccer. It just doesn't have the talent or the passion that European Soccer has. I am hopeful that one day it will... and that it won't serve as the retirement home for those in Europe who played out their best days and want to have a few more celebrity filled years here in the States.
But coming up on March 10, Liverpool has their second leg game against Real Madrid in the Champions League that I am already biting my nails in anticipation of. They won the first game with an away goal under their belt and now need to win or tie to move to the next round. They could lose 0-1 and still win, but I don't want to talk about that scenario!
Anyways, if you haven't ever watched soccer overseas, I strongly suggest you do so. It is the eye opener to understanding why it is the biggest sport on the planet. And for those who argue that soccer is not "cool" - I say to them: what team do you know of has a drinking song as their "official" song?
So Good!
